Armorial Bearings

Armorial Bearings, Public Register of Arms, Flags, and Badges of Canada,
Granted 20 July 2007

The symbolism of the badge (above) is believed to be unique in the annals of  Anglo-Saxon heraldry, for it combines a traditional element with one that is “hitherto unheralded”: the traditional crossed quills (to represent writing) along with the non-traditional silhouette of a flying saucer, or UFO (unidentified flying object), a subject of interest to the bearer of the arms.
